1. Acceptance of Terms

Welcome to MathHint.com ("MathHint", "the Service", "the Website", "we", "our", or "us"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of MathHint, including our website, artificial intelligence ("AI")-assisted mathematics learning platform, educational hinting services, software, applications, and any related products or services we provide.

By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not access or use the Service.

These Terms apply to all users of MathHint, including but not limited to:

If you are accessing the Service on behalf of a school or other organisation, you represent and warrant that you have the authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

2. Definitions

For the purposes of these Terms:

• Account means a registered user account providing access to the Service.
• Authorised User means any student, teacher, staff member, parent, tutor, or other person authorised by a Customer to use the Service.
• Customer means any individual or organisation that purchases, subscribes to, or otherwise obtains access to the Service.
• Individual User means a person who creates and manages their own MathHint account independently.
• School means any school, college, university, tutoring organisation, educational institution, or other educational provider that purchases or administers access to the Service.
• School Administrator means a person authorised by a School to manage subscriptions, user accounts, licences, and access permissions.
• Subscription means any paid or free plan providing access to the Service.
• User Content means any mathematical questions, photos, screenshots, handwritten work, typed text, equations, documents, files, reviews, images, or other materials uploaded or submitted by a user to the Service.
• AI Response means any hint, explanation, feedback, solution, suggestion, or other content generated in whole or in part using artificial intelligence.
• Fair Use Policy means the reasonable usage requirements described in these Terms intended to ensure sustainable and reliable access to the Service for all users.

3. Eligibility and Age Requirements

You must have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement under the applicable laws of your jurisdiction. If you are under the applicable age of digital consent, you may only use the Service under the permission or supervision required by applicable law, including obtaining parental, legal guardian, school, or other authorised consent where required.

For individual users who are minors, a parent or legal guardian may be required to accept these Terms on behalf of the student. Where access is provided through a School, the School is responsible for obtaining any necessary permissions or consents under applicable privacy, child protection, or education laws. MathHint does not knowingly allow children to create accounts independently where parental or school authorisation is legally required.

4. Description of Service

MathHint is an AI-assisted educational platform designed to help students learn mathematics through guided problem-solving rather than providing immediate full solutions. The Service is intended to encourage independent thinking, mathematical reasoning, and productive struggle while reducing opportunities for academic misconduct.

Depending on the user’s subscription, features may include:

• AI-generated mathematical hints;
• progressive, multi-stage assistance;
• concise solution guidance after appropriate learning attempts;
• LaTeX rendering for mathematical notation;
• image recognition for printed or handwritten mathematics;
• storage of question history and learning progress;
• individualised educational feedback;
• teacher and school administrative tools;
• account management features;
• usage reporting; and
• other educational tools introduced from time to time.

Certain features may only be available under specific subscription plans.

MathHint continuously develops and improves the Service. Consequently, we may, without prior notice where reasonably required for operational, security, feature-improvement, or legal-compliance purposes: add new features; modify existing features; discontinue features; change user interfaces; improve AI models; introduce new technologies; or change third-party service providers.

MathHint may use one or more third-party artificial intelligence providers to generate educational responses. These providers may change from time to time without affecting the validity of these Terms.

The Service is intended solely as an educational aid. It does not replace classroom instruction, professional tutoring, independent study, or the academic judgement of teachers and educational institutions.

While we strive to provide accurate and helpful guidance, AI-generated responses may occasionally contain errors, omissions, ambiguities, or incomplete explanations. Users should exercise their own judgement and verify important information through teachers, textbooks, or other reliable educational resources where appropriate.

5. Guided Learning and Academic Integrity

MathHint is engineered to support student development of mathematical understanding through guided learning, rather than delivering immediate full solutions. The Service encourages students to think independently, apply mathematical reasoning, and build genuine problem-solving skills.

To support these goals, MathHint may require students to complete independent study steps or other learning activities before receiving additional help. These learning safeguards are integral to the educational design of the Service and are intended to promote meaningful learning over simple answer-retrieval.

Users agree that they will not use the Service for:

• cheating or facilitating cheating;
• completing assessments where AI assistance is prohibited;
• submitting AI-assisted work as entirely their own independent product;
• bypassing school assessment rules or academic integrity policies;
• assisting others in academic misconduct;
• any unlawful or dishonest educational purpose.

Schools remain responsible for determining when and how students may use the Service, including during homework, classroom activities, assignments, tests, examinations, or other assessments. MathHint does not guarantee that use of the Service complies with the academic integrity policies of every educational institution. Users remain responsible for complying with the policies of their school, university, examination board, or other educational organisation.

6. School Subscriptions

Where a school purchases a subscription, the school is the Customer. Students, teachers, and staff members authorised by the school are Authorised Users.

School subscriptions may include administrative tools that allow designated School Administrators to: create and manage user accounts; allocate licences; reset passwords; manage classes or learning groups; view usage information when available; and manage the school’s subscription.

The school represents and warrants that:

• it has the authority to enter into these Terms;
• it has the authority to purchase the subscription;
• it has obtained any required permissions, approvals, or consents necessary for students and staff to use the Service;
• it has the legal authority to provide information necessary to create and manage user accounts.

The school is responsible for: ensuring that only authorised users access the Service; maintaining the confidentiality of administrator credentials; promptly removing users who are no longer authorised; ensuring compliance with applicable laws and school policies; and ensuring that students are aware of any local rules governing AI-assisted learning.

MathHint does not monitor or enforce individual school assessment policies. The responsibility for determining appropriate educational use lies with each school. School subscriptions are non-transferable and may not be shared with other educational institutions unless explicitly agreed otherwise in writing.

7. Student Accounts and User Information

For school subscriptions, student accounts may be created directly by the school or by MathHint on behalf of the school using information provided by the school. Schools should provide only personal information reasonably necessary for providing the Service.

Depending on the subscription, such information may include: student name or preferred name; school-assigned username; email address; student identification number/identifier; year level; class or learning group; assigned teacher; and learning history within the Service.

Schools remain responsible for ensuring that information provided to MathHint is accurate and that the school has the legal authority to provide such information.

Users are responsible for maintaining accurate account information and for immediately notifying MathHint of any unauthorised use of their account. Users must keep their login credentials confidential and must not share accounts with any other person. Each account is licensed for use only by the specific individual to whom it is assigned.

8. Account Security, Acceptable Use, and Fair Use Policy

Users are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their account credentials and for using the Service in a fair, reasonable, and educational manner. Certain subscription plans may include "unlimited" question submissions. For the purposes of these Terms, "unlimited" means that no fixed numerical cap is applied to genuine educational use during the corresponding subscription period. Unlimited access remains subject to this Fair Use Policy.

MathHint’s Fair Use Policy is designed to ensure that the Service remains reliable, sustainable, and available to all users.

Users agree not to:

• share accounts with unauthorised persons;
• create multiple accounts to circumvent subscription limitations;
• attempt to bypass Service limitations;
• interfere with the security or operation of the Service;
• reverse engineer, probe, or test the Service for vulnerabilities;
• use robots, scripts, automated software, browser automation, APIs, or other automated methods to submit questions or interact with the Service;
• submit questions generated automatically or in bulk by software rather than from genuine educational use;
• repeatedly submit duplicate, substantially similar, meaningless, blank, or non-educational questions;
• intentionally consume excessive computing resources or AI processing capacity;
• upload malware or harmful content;
• attempt to manipulate, confuse, or bypass the AI systems, including through prompt injection or similar techniques;
• use the Service for benchmarking AI systems, commercial research, or other purposes unrelated to authentic learning;
• engage in any activity that substantially degrades the experience of other users.

MathHint may monitor usage patterns to identify activity inconsistent with normal educational use. Monitoring may include, but is not limited to: unusually high frequencies of submissions; repetitive automated or copied submissions; unusually rapid sequential submissions; excessive AI resource consumption; repeated submission of non-mathematical or irrelevant content; repeated attempts to bypass service safeguards; and other behaviors reasonably indicating abuse.

MathHint may use automated systems, including artificial intelligence, to detect anomalous or potentially abusive activity. The detection of unusual activity does not automatically imply that a user has violated these Terms.

Where anomalous activity is detected, MathHint may, as reasonably necessary: investigate the activity; request clarification from the user or school; temporarily slow down submission processing; temporarily limit question submissions; require additional verification; suspend access during an investigation into suspected abuse; or terminate accounts where we reasonably believe these Terms have been materially breached.

Prior to suspending or terminating a school account for suspected abuse, MathHint will normally make reasonable efforts to notify the school and provide an opportunity to respond, unless immediate action is necessary to protect the security, integrity, or availability of the Service. Legitimate students engaging in authentic educational use are not expected to be impacted by these measures. MathHint reserves the right to take any reasonable action required to protect the service reliability, security, integrity, and sustainability for all users.

9. User Content

Users retain ownership of the mathematical questions, handwritten work, photos, screenshots, documents, and other materials ("User Content") they upload to MathHint. By submitting User Content, you grant MathHint a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, process, transmit, and use that User Content solely for the purposes of:

• providing and operating the Service;
• generating AI-assisted educational responses;
• maintaining user learning history where applicable;
• detecting errors, abuse, fraud, or security threats;
• improving the reliability, quality, accessibility, and performance of the Service;
• complying with legal obligations; and
• any other purpose described in our Privacy Policy.

This licence continues only for the duration reasonably necessary to operate the Service and fulfill the purposes outlined above. MathHint does not claim ownership of User Content.

Users represent and warrant that they have the legal right to upload all User Content submitted to the Service and that such content does not infringe the intellectual property or other legal rights of any third party. Users must not upload content that is: unlawful; infringing on copyright or other intellectual property; containing malware; containing personal information the user is not authorised to disclose; or offensive, abusive, defamatory, discriminatory, or otherwise inappropriate. MathHint reserves the right to remove User Content that reasonably appears to violate these Terms or applicable laws.

10. Privacy

MathHint collects, stores, uses, and processes personal information in accordance with its Privacy Policy. Our Privacy Policy explains: what personal information we collect; how we use that information; how we protect personal information; when disclosures may occur; how long information may be retained; and the rights users have regarding their personal information.

Where a school provides student information, the school is responsible for ensuring it has the legal authority to provide that information and has obtained any required parental consent or other permissions under applicable laws.

MathHint implements reasonable administrative, technical, and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. No internet-based service can guarantee absolute security. Users acknowledge that information transmitted via the internet may be subject to risks beyond MathHint’s reasonable control.

11. Artificial Intelligence

MathHint uses artificial intelligence technologies to generate educational hints, explanations, feedback, and other learning assistance. AI-generated responses are intended solely as educational guidance.

Although MathHint continuously improves its AI systems, AI-generated responses may occasionally:

• contain factual or mathematical errors;
• provide incomplete reasoning;
• omit alternative solution methods;
• misinterpret uploaded content;
• produce unexpected or inaccurate outputs.

Users must exercise independent judgement and verify critical information through teachers, textbooks, official curriculum materials, or other reliable educational resources where appropriate. MathHint does not guarantee that AI-generated responses will always be correct, complete, tailored to specific curricula, or accepted by any educational institution.

MathHint may change, update, substitute, or discontinue AI models, algorithms, or third-party AI providers used in the Service at any time without prior notice. Users acknowledge that AI technology is continuously evolving and that educational output should not be relied upon as professional educational, legal, financial, or other expert advice.

12. Intellectual Property

The MathHint platform—including its software, source code, databases, website design, user interfaces, graphics, logos, trademarks, branding, documentation, educational workflows, AI prompt engineering, and underlying technology—is owned by or licensed to MathHint and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

Except as expressly permitted in these Terms, users may not, regarding any part of the Service: copy; reproduce; modify; distribute; publish; reverse engineer; decompile; create derivative works; commercially exploit; resell; or otherwise use the platform.

Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of any intellectual property from MathHint to any user. Feedback, suggestions, ideas, or recommendations voluntarily provided by users regarding improvements to the Service may be used by MathHint without restriction or compensation unless otherwise agreed in writing.

13. Payments and Subscriptions

Subscription fees, licence periods, payment terms, renewal arrangements, and included features will be displayed at the time of purchase, or provided in a quotation, invoice, School Subscription Agreement, or other written agreement. School subscriptions may be governed by a separate School Subscription Agreement. If there is any inconsistency between these Terms and a separately executed School Subscription Agreement, the School Subscription Agreement shall prevail to the extent of the inconsistency.

Unless otherwise stated:

• subscription fees are payable in advance;
• fees are non-refundable except as required by applicable law;
• subscriptions are non-transferable;
• unused subscription periods cannot be redeemed for cash.

MathHint may change subscription plans, pricing, or included features for future subscription periods by providing reasonable notice prior to renewal. Failure to pay applicable subscription fees may result in the suspension or termination of access to the Service. Where payments are processed through third-party payment providers, payment transactions are subject to the terms and conditions of that provider. MathHint does not store complete payment card data unless explicitly stated.

For school subscriptions, the school is responsible for ensuring that payment obligations are fulfilled according to the applicable quotation, invoice, purchase order, or subscription agreement.

14. Suspension and Termination

MathHint may suspend, restrict, or terminate access to the Service where we reasonably believe that: these Terms have been materially breached; the Service is being used in a manner inconsistent with its educational purpose; the Fair Use Policy has been materially violated; payment obligations have not been met; continued access creates security, legal, operational, or financial risks; or where suspension is reasonably necessary to protect the integrity, availability, or security of the Service.

Where reasonably practicable, MathHint will provide notice prior to suspending or terminating an account. However, MathHint may suspend access immediately and without prior notice if it reasonably determines it is necessary to: protect the security of the Service; prevent fraudulent or illegal activities; prevent major disruption to other users; or comply with legal obligations.

Users may stop using the Service at any time. Termination of an account does not affect any rights or obligations that accrued prior to termination. Following termination, MathHint may retain certain information where required by law, reasonably necessary for legitimate business purposes, or as described in our Privacy Policy.

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless MathHint and its directors, employees, contractors, and affiliates from any reasonable claims, liabilities, losses, damages, costs, or expenses arising from:

• your breach of these Terms;
• your unlawful misuse of the Service;
• your violation of the rights of a third party;
• User Content uploaded by you that violates applicable law;
• your abuse of the Service.

This section does not apply to the extent that a claim is caused by MathHint’s own negligence, fraud, or wilful misconduct.

18. Changes to These Terms

MathHint may update these Terms from time to time to reflect: changes to the Service; improvements to our technology; changes in applicable law; operational requirements; security requirements; or changes to business practices. Updated Terms will be published on the Website together with a revised Effective Date.

For material changes that significantly affect users’ rights or obligations, MathHint will make reasonable efforts to provide advance notice through the Website, email, or other appropriate communication. Continued use of the Service after updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of those updated Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the Service.

19. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Western Australia, Australia, without regard to conflict of law principles. The parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Western Australia and any courts entitled to hear appeals from those courts.

Nothing in these Terms prevents MathHint from seeking urgent injunctive or equitable relief in any court of competent jurisdiction where reasonably necessary to protect its intellectual property, confidential information, or the security of the Service.
