Depending on how you access MathHint, we may collect:

B. User-Submitted Educational Content

Users may upload mathematical learning materials, including:

• handwritten working;

• typed questions;
• other educational content.

These materials may contain information unintentionally included in images, such as: student names, school details, handwriting, or other visible information. MathHint does not use handwriting or uploaded educational materials to identify a person’s physical identity. Uploaded educational materials are treated as confidential learning data and are processed only for providing and improving the Service.

C. Learning Activity Information

We may collect information relating to the use of MathHint, including:

• questions submitted;
• hints requested;
• generated responses;
• learning history;
• timestamps of requests;
• usage patterns.

This information allows students to review previous learning activities and enables MathHint to provide the guided hinting experience.

4. School Accounts and Student Information

The school remains responsible for:

• ensuring it has authority to provide student information to MathHint;
• ensuring appropriate permissions or consents have been obtained where required;
• ensuring that students use MathHint according to school policies.

MathHint processes school-provided information only for purposes related to providing, maintaining, and securing the Service.

5. Artificial Intelligence Processing and Third-Party Services

MathHint uses artificial intelligence technologies to analyse mathematical questions and generate educational hints. To provide AI-assisted features, uploaded mathematical questions and related information may be processed by third-party technology providers. Currently, MathHint uses Google’s Gemini API for AI processing.

When information is sent to third-party AI providers:

• the information is transmitted securely;
• processing is used to provide AI-generated educational responses;
• MathHint selects providers that maintain appropriate privacy and security commitments.

MathHint does not use student information to create advertising profiles or sell information to third parties.

6. Data Storage, Security, and Retention

MathHint takes reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information. Security measures may include: secure hosting infrastructure, access controls, secure password storage, encrypted transmission where appropriate, prepared database statements to reduce security risks, and restricted access to administrative systems.

Learning materials and account information may be stored while necessary to provide the Service. For individual users, information may be retained while the account remains active unless deletion is requested.

For school accounts:

• information is retained during the subscription period;
• schools may request deletion of information after termination, subject to legal or operational requirements.

Users may request deletion of their account or personal information. For school-managed accounts, requests relating to student information should normally be coordinated through the relevant school administrator. MathHint may retain limited information where required by law, necessary for security purposes, or required to maintain legitimate business records.

MathHint is designed as an educational learning platform. Where users are children or students, access should occur with appropriate permission, supervision, or authorisation from parents, guardians, schools, or other responsible organisations as required by applicable laws.

Schools using MathHint are responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable privacy requirements and school policies relating to student use of educational technology. Parents or guardians may contact MathHint regarding questions about their child’s information or requests for deletion.

MathHint operates from Perth, Western Australia. Because MathHint uses cloud hosting and third-party technology providers, personal information may be processed or stored in countries outside Australia. Where information is transferred internationally, MathHint takes reasonable steps to ensure appropriate privacy and security protections are applied.
